meillo@290 8 Wanted: simple mailer for laptop use
meillo@290 9
meillo@290 10 Hi folks,
meillo@290 11
meillo@290 12 can anyone recommend me a good MTA (mail"server") suitable for network
meillo@290 13 use? My feature wishes would be:
meillo@290 14
meillo@290 15 * SMTP-Auth
meillo@290 16 * local (!) delivery
meillo@290 17 * mail queing if offline
meillo@290 18 * not panic when laptop is offline for 2 or 3 days.
meillo@290 19 * easy to configure (1 config file if possible)
meillo@290 20
meillo@290 21 I know that postfix and exim4 are able to do this, but they are imo a
meillo@290 22 bit too heavy for my use. ssmtp and nullmailer don't have local
meillo@290 23 delivery. Do I really need a heavyweight mailer or is there somewhere
meillo@290 24 a lightweight alternative?

meillo@290 34
meillo@290 35 No kidding. The whole point is that you _have_ to have an MTA and you don't
meillo@290 36 want to configure Postfix/Exim/Sendmail/Qmail (almost all of which I've
meillo@290 37 actually done).
meillo@290 38
meillo@290 39 I now use masqmail - it's really simple, my configuration is all in debconf,
meillo@290 40 it's supported by whereami, and it's really simple
meillo@290 41
meillo@290 42 I'm sure you can make any MTA behave nicely when offline, but it was a chore
meillo@290 43 with all of them.
